hey,
I have a disorder called ADHD
And no, it's not just hyperactivity and lack of focus....even though I am quite hyperactive and often do have trouble focusing heh
So I've decided to make a list of other thingies that are part of my ADHD. Because it is a spectrum and much more than just the stereotypes c:
I've also added hyperactivity between braces for some traits. As an ADHD trait, hyperactivity is much more than "not being able to sit still". I want to show you all traits that are considered hyperactive and show that it's a broader term than most people think
I'm combined type ADHD (both hyperactive and inattentive), leaning a bit more to hyperactivity. However I thought it would be interesting to also add which traits are typically inattentive
(PS: these are all traits I have and relate to, this is my personal list and can be different for anyone on the spectrum)
⦁ always loosing things (keys, mp3, tissues) (inattentive)
⦁ always on the go/ feeling you have to move (hyperactivity)
⦁ constantly changing task or activity (inattentive)
⦁ constantly fidgeting (hyperactivity)
⦁ developmental delays 1
⦁ dyscalculia
⦁ dyspraxia
⦁ disordered eating
⦁ easily distracted (inattentive)
⦁ emotional dysregulation
⦁ excessive talking (hyperactivity)
⦁ forgetfulness
⦁ hyperactivity
⦁ impatience
⦁ impulsive spending habits
⦁ inflexibility
⦁ interrupting 4
⦁ intrusive thoughts
⦁ irritability
⦁ mood swings
⦁ often seems not to listen or distracted when spoken to 5
⦁ racing thoughts (hyperactivity)
⦁ restlessness (hyperactivity)
⦁ short attention span (inattentive)
⦁ special interests 3
⦁ starting new tasks before finishing old ones
⦁ talking too fast/at an incredibly fast pace 2 (hyperactivity)
⦁ trouble carrying out tasks (inattentive)
⦁ trouble dealing with stress
⦁ trouble falling asleep
1 In my case it's mostly dyscalculia and dyspraxia
2 This got "critisized" by my teachers and family. I adapted and learnt to speak at a "normal" pace because I talked that fast that they sometimes couldn't understand me/keep up with me. So you won't notice it when talking to me. Even though I'm still capable of switching back
3 One of my next blog posts will be about my special interests ^^
4 I try to surpress this one, I always feel bad when I do it. Whenever I interrupt someone it's alread out before I even realise it myself. I apologise to anyone I have ever interrupted hehe and probably will interrupt in the future help
5 A trait that I try to mask, because I don't want to come over as uninterested. I am interested, just not always keeping eye contact or distracted by certain environments
You might wonder why I make full blog posts about this disorder, but ADHD is more than a disorder (at least to me it is). ADHD affects how I think, how I process and experience things. ADHD is how my brain works and has always worked. I was literally born ADHD. Just like I was born bisexual, Belgian/Spanish and more. It is a part of my identityOkay, that's enough cheesy stuff for now
